THE KIDSTORE IS NOT CLOSING! With the opening of [RE]FRESH, there has been some confusion about the KidStore. It will REMAIN OPEN! It's a valuable resource to our families with younger children.
Children often come into foster care with only the clothing on their backs. To help, we manage a small resale shop open exclusively to children in foster care. The KidStore provides high-quality clothing at “garage sale” prices; most items cost between $ .50 and $1.00.
The KidStore is open exclusively to Missouri and Illinois foster/adoptive parents, relative caregivers, caseworkers, and GALs/CASAs. We ask that new shoppers bring proof of your foster/adoptive parent status on their first visit, only. Examples of acceptable forms of identification include: foster parent identification card, copy of foster parent certificate/license, or a CD or DFS check stub. In addition, please bring documentation that you have physical custody of the child(ren) or court order. Your information will be kept safely on file for future visits.

To become a KidStore volunteer, please contact Shelley Thomas-Benke, Director of FosterServe Volunteers at 314.367.8373 x29.
Volunteers are needed to:
- Volunteer Manager or Assistant Manager once a month
Assist shoppers on the sales floor, straighten the clothing on the racks, and help check out shoppers
- Sort clothing donations and put them onto racks in the store;
- Organize clothing drives
These Organizers plan a children’s clothing drive in their school, church, company, or neighborhood to donate to the KidStore. Clothing drives can be done year-round, as the KidStore is always in need of fashionable, good-quality, season-appropriate clothing.
- Pick up clothing donations and transport them to the KidStore.
- KidStore cashier
KidStore cashiers are long-term KidStore volunteers who have taken the primary responsibility for managing the KidStore one morning each month. The cashier opens and closes the KidStore, maintains the appearance of the store, handles cash, verifies foster parent status of shoppers, fills out sales receipts, fills out the Daily Financial Report, accepts clothing donations, and helps train volunteers as needed.
- KidStore Season Switchover Volunteers
Season switchover volunteers pull off-season clothing off the clothing racks, bag it up, and hang season-appropriate clothing onto the racks at our KidStore. Season switchovers are done twice each year at the KidStore on a Saturday afternoon, generally in April and October.
