Training Extravaganza Minimize
 

The Extravaganza is an all-day training that allows foster/adoptive/relative caregivers to receive 7.5 in-service training hours in one day, and you can bring the kids, too.  

In order for you and your child(ren) to participate:

  1. You must agree to attend all workshops,
  2. Complete the Registration Form which can be downloaded by clicking here.
  3. Return Registration Form to the Coalition, and
  4. Receive verification letter (which will include address and directions) from the Coalition that you are registered about a week before event. 

You can return your Registration Form three ways:

Space is limited to 200 adults and 100 children.  Because childcare fills up in the first few days, we will use a lottery method to process registration.  For more information on how to register, the childcare lottery, or general concerns, please contact Nickie Steinhoff at 800.FOSTER.3 (314.367.8373) x35.

EXTRAVAGANZA AGENDA
THEME:  Preparing for a Safe and Successful School Year

 Parent’s Agenda:

  • Educating Children in Foster Care:  Are you confused about state and federal laws related to your child’s education?  If so, this workshop is for you!  This presentation will cover school enrollment and withdrawal procedures, education laws related to children and how to support struggling students.  Parents will learn effective strategies to  advocate for their children in the school setting. 
  • Social Media – Be Safe, Be Smart:  As many as 33% of teenagers report that their parents have no idea what they do online.  Learn the realities, dangers and effects of social media on children and teens as well as strategies to monitor the online use of your youth.
  • Helping Your Child Succeed in School:  Be prepared for the new school year with confidence!  After attending this session, parents will clearly understand their rights and responsibilities regarding their child’s education as well as academic language, learning styles and multiple intelligences. 
  • Keeping Kids Safe at School and in the Community:  How do I know if my child is a victim of bullying or violence at school?  What can I do?  This session will provide answers to these and many more questions to keep your child safe in school and in the community.
  • Communicating for Results:  Listen and ask questions to a panel of case managers and service providers.  Parents will know how to express their concerns regarding the case plan with the professional team, and, how to support the case plan to best meet the needs of the child.

Children’s Agenda:
Gateway dental will be available to provide dental screenings for children ages 3-17, with appropriate consent.  All children in attendance will receive backpacks and school supplies.  Older children will be able to create their own jewelry, while younger children attend a special puppet show!
