Coalition Happenings Minimize

Coalition in Action - 08.19.10 Minimize

Steven
was born in Haiti under difficult circumstances.  To give him a better life, his mother sent him to the US.  Unfortunately, they lost contact.  He lived with an adoptive family for four years, but they were unable to keep him in their home.  He spent the next year in a residential institution.  His future didn’t look bright.

Following the 2009 Haitian earthquake, Steven became deeply depressed.   Thankfully, his case was referred to Extreme Recruitment (ER).  The Extreme Recruiter on his case described him as, “the most clinically depressed child she had ever seen.”   All Steven wanted to know was if his birth mom was alive.

The ER team went into high gear to find Steven’s mother and a forever family.  They contacted the St. Louis Haitian community.  One member went above and beyond to help Steven, serving as his mentor and contacting friends and relatives in Haiti.  There were even door-to-door searches in Port-au-Prince!  Finally, Steven’s birth mom was found!   It turned out that she was searching for him also.  After speaking with her for the first time in years, Steven’s spirits were renewed.  The look on his face was “one of incredible joy.”

Because of Extreme Recruitment and the combined efforts of many, Steven is now connected to the Haitian community and he knows his mom is safe.  In their words, “He is one of us – he is our family!”  Even more good news was to follow – Steven has been matched with an adoptive family!  This is the power of Extreme Recruitment.

Blaine - Extreme Recruitment Minimize

Blaine (16) is a good natured young man who has severe developmental delays.  He remembers and recognizes the people in his life and his face lights into a happy smile for the people who care about him.

Blaine loves water activities, especially swimming, and any other action activities.  He goes to the YMCA for swimming with his foster family.  This easygoing young man gets along well with other children and adults.  To communicate, he points at what he wants to make his needs known.  Blaine needs a very special family who is willing to devote much time to his care. He would reward his caregivers with a dimpled smile that would bring a smile to their face.  To learn more, please contact Ian Forber-Pratt, Extreme Recruiter, at 800.FOSTER.3 (314.367.8373) x32 or 314.614.2413.
