Alexis Hershey serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Digital Officer of Midwest BankCentre. Alexis first heard about the Coalition more than 17 years ago when she attended a tour with the United Way Leadership Society. Alexis recalls, “That’s the day I met Melanie [Coalition Executive Director] for the first time, and I’ve been inspired by her leadership ever since. Seeing the passion and purpose behind the Coalition’s work left a lasting impression on me—it’s been incredible to watch the organization continue to grow and change so many lives.”
The Coalition’s mission is deeply personal to Alexis. When she was just 23, she became a foster parent. “That experience changed my life. It gave me a deep understanding of the challenges children in foster care face and the importance of helping them find stable, nurturing homes. The bond I built with the children I cared for was powerful—it reminded me how critical it is for every child to have safety and stability,” Alexis says. She continues, “Serving on the board allows me to honor that experience by helping more children find their forever homes and the healing that begins when they finally feel they belong.”
That’s why the Coalition’s vision, “For every child…A Place to Call Home” speaks so deeply to Alexis’s heart. She knew she belonged on our organization’s board. Alexis explains, “Every child deserves to feel safe, loved, and part of a family that sees their worth. Home is where children can finally exhale, heal, and dream about their future. I’m inspired by the Coalition’s work to find family connections and create belonging—it’s not just changing lives, it’s transforming generations. That mission is why I’m so proud to be part of this work.”
As a mom and former teacher, Alexis brings a special lens of passion and empathy. She understands the importance of meeting children where they are and helping them feel seen and supported. Professionally, her expertise in banking and technology helps her think strategically about how to strengthen systems, build partnerships, and create sustainable impact. Alexis’ mix of “heart and strategy” helps her support the Coalition from a personal and professional perspective.
Looking toward the future, Alexis is excited to watch the Coalition continue to grow and achieve its goals, and looks forward to raising awareness of our work. “Everyone should know that the Coalition never gives up on a child.
